About

The Pennsylvania Economy League serves as a catalyst for moving ideas into reality by working in partnership with governmental, business, and civic groups to develop consensus and action on public policies, programs, and solutions that will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of state and local government, improve the Commonwealth’s economic climate and competitiveness, and raise the quality of life in the state.

The recognized hallmarks of PEL are credible information, insight, and integrity.

To fulfill its mission, PEL maintains a statewide network of more than 200 civic leaders serving on various PEL boards and committees and a full-time professional staff of about 45 which is experienced in public policy issues and government management and finance. PEL works to identify problems and opportunities associated with government and public policy and to provide research, analysis, planning, technical assistance, and information to public officials, citizens, and the media. These facts and objective analyses serve as a basis for sound public policy decisions and aid in initiating appropriate actions by the state’s public and private leadership.

PEL believes that efficient and effective government is essential to economic growth and the overall attractiveness of Pennsylvania and its regions, and that the interest and involvement of private sector leaders can help to improve the structure and performance of government. When private sector leaders are well informed about key problems facing the state and their areas and about feasible strategies for addressing those problems they are better equipped to provide the support and assistance that public officials need to take action.
